"As three-time corporator, I made several attempts to clean up the river. However, it's a daunting task and needs a combined effort from the BMC and the state government," said Congress corporator Sheetal Mhatre.

Sheetal's sister-in-law, also Sheetal Mhatre, a Shiv Sena corporator, said, "The key problem is that the entire sewage of the neighbourhood is pumped into the river. I had moved a notice of motion at the BMC meeting on the issue. The Maharashtra government has okayed Rs 150 crore for cleaning up the river, but much remains to be done."

Brandy Volquez, the brother of former Royals pitcher and current Miami Marlin Edinson Volquez, was stabbed to death following a fight in the Dominican Republic early Monday morning.

The brawl happened at around 3 a.m. in the El Cafe de Herrera district of the Dominican Republic, according to the Kansas City Star.

One of the brothers is in police custody while the other is in a hospital.

TCS techie who 'plotted' to target PM Narendra Modi held in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: In a joint operation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Counter Intelligence Cell sleuths of Telangana and a CID special investigation division team on Monday apprehended four terror suspects inspired by al-Qaida from hideouts in Chennai and Madurai who had planned to target at least 22 VVIPs including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Investigators, who seized explosive materials from their hideouts, said the suspects were responsible for five blasts in courts across south India. NIA sleuths on Monday announced the arrest of three offenders in Madurai and Chennai, while examining another suspect.

The gang leader, who investigators arrested, is Dawood Suleiman, 23, a TCS software engineer from Karimsa Pallivasal in Madurai who lived in Thiruvanmiyur in Chennai. They identified the others as Abbas Ali, 27, a house painter from Ismailpuram in Madurai, and Samsum Karim Raja, a BCom graduate with a chicken shop in Madurai. Two suspects escaped during the Madurai raid.
